Inside Line Promotions – LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (Oct. 11, 2018) – Seth Bergman captured the Hard Charger Award for passing the most cars during the main event last Saturday at I-30 Speedway, which hosted the 31st annual COMP Cams Short Track Nationals.
The ASCS Mid-South Region doubleheader began on Friday with Bergman maneuvering from sixth to second place in a heat race before a fourth-place finish in a qualifier ranked him 11th in overall points out of more than 80 competitors. That lined him up on the inside of the sixth row for the A Main.
“The track was pretty one lane around the bottom so you had to get in line and try not to make any mistakes,” he said. “It can be tricky in those conditions because you want to stay close enough to the guy in front of you in case they make a mistake so you can capitalize, but you also don’t want to put yourself in a bad position and slide out of the preferred lane.”
Bergman ended the night with an 11th-place showing.
The finale went a lot smoother as Bergman won a heat race after starting third. He advanced from sixth to fifth place in a qualifier and won a B Main to transfer into the 14th starting position for the main event.
“We had a good car and there was a little more of an opportunity to pass,” he said. “I think we made the most of our circumstances by moving forward as far as we did and coming out of there with a top five. When there’s about 80 drivers from around the country competing it’s a good performance to leave with a top five.”
Bergman’s fourth-place finish marked his career-best result during the Short Track Nationals.
While Bergman is unsure of what his schedule looks like this weekend, the next event on the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour presented by SawBlade.com schedule for Bergman is Oct. 19-20 at Devil’s Bowl Speedway in Mesquite, Texas, for the 45th annual Winter Nationals.
